I walked among the ancient trees,
On earth so soft, I made no sound,
And when I came to an open place
I put my ear close to the ground.
I felt the earth in all my cells,
I heard her call as if with need,
And I conveyed my deepest wish
To care for her in thought and deed.
I lay among the fallen leaves
No longer separate or apart,
And heard within my reaching soul,
The steady beating of her heart.
