Let us look to the hearts of our leaders
    and would be leaders,
to the purity of intention of these hearts
    in their desire to do good.
Let us listen for words of honesty,
    of simplicity, of compassion, of love,
and let us ask our hearts
    if these words are true.
We, as a nation, shall rise or fall
    on the basis of the words we use
    and the place in the heart that they come from.

May the words of our leaders
    be words of virtue rather than words of deception.
May the heart of love
    that lives within each one
    give forth the words that will restore hope
    to an ailing nation,
    and promise to a people
    of the future that can be.
