The Psalms of David are Songs to God. They reflect pain, joy, fear, the desire for comfort - the whole range of human emotion. In addition to this, they express the longing and loving of a heart that seeks to know God in the most intimate way. David does not use the word 'purification' in his psalms. Yet, it is what he means by walking with God, and by seeking integrity and righteousness. Purification is a labor of love. It requires commitment to God's purposes for man and an observance of God's law. The delight that this commitment brings to the heart is what David speaks about in this first Psalm. He begins with the acknowledgment of the blessings that come to the righteous who establish God's law as the law within their own hearts. These are the ones who remain faithful to purity in an impure world, and who turn away from the unholy. |

is the man that walketh not in the council of the ungodly, nor standeth
in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.:

In Psalms 15 and 26 also, David expresses the vows that are at the heart of purification: to walk in integrity, to love God, to seek to follow the path of righteousness: |
"I will walk in my integrity: redeem me, and be merciful unto me"-
this is the song of David that calls us to remember the partnership with
God that is the essence of the purification process. Article Section - Individual |
