PURIFICATION, SEXUAL SCANDALS, and the RETURN TO SACRED SEXUALITY
The freedom to express impulses cannot be true freedom unless it takes into account one’s whole being and especially one’s heart in relation to the whole being and heart of another. Such freedom enhances the growth of each one and allows God to enter the relationship since the heart’s love is fully present.

Release of darkness is taking place both individually and collectively today as a result of the expansion of spiritual light upon the Earth. It is important to hold in this light the proliferation of sexual scandals and revelations that have taken place in recent weeks (Penn State University, Syracuse University, U.S. Republican presidential campaign), and also in recent years in the Church and among both political leaders and heads-of-state. It is not only that these are being unearthed and coming into the light of day with greater frequency. It is also that a purification of sexual darkness, as well as other forms of darkness, is taking place at this time with the ultimate goal of healing. Such healing requires that what has been hidden become conscious. This is needed with respect to attitudes regarding sexuality, the body, and an understanding of what freedom is in relation to the body. Also and most importantly, what the physical body is in relation to the spiritual core of one’s being.
To begin with, freedom is not necessarily the capacity to do anything one wants with one’s body. In this regard, there is true freedom and there is the illusion of freedom which masquerades as truth. True freedom is based on decisions of a deep kind that are made with and for one’s whole self with the aim of fostering growth of that self into greater wholeness. The illusion of freedom, by contrast, creates a belief that by giving permission to the impulse of the moment, even if it arises from a partial self, and even if the consequences for growth are detrimental, that such impulse expression represents freedom. The illusion of freedom in the sexual arena also creates the separation of sexual energy from the energy of the heart and from the crown center and thus splits the individual in a way that increasingly departs from the sacred.
Sexual darkness has led and continues to lead to abuses of many kinds, to sexually-transmitted diseases, and to a variety of dysfunctional relationship patterns. Though it is often deemed to be acceptable within today’s social and cultural norms, this is because the distinction between true freedom and the illusion of freedom is not understood, and because the drift away from sacred values has taken place to such a degree that the body’s relationship to the spirit has become progressively diminished.

Such freedom enhances the growth of each one and allows God to enter the relationship since the heart’s love is fully present. By contrast, the separation of sexual energy from the energy of the heart and from love for God creates a de-sanctifying of the body which is meant to become a sacred vessel of light. Particularly at this time when light is expanding on the Earth, such a de-sanctification is significant. As this takes place, both the embodied self and the human collective Self can hold less light and bring less light to others.
Sexual scandals that we hear of today are part of the purification of the Earth in its return to light and the values of sacredness. Such purification requires that what has been concealed, whether individually or collectively, become known. On the other hand, the revelation of sexual scandals and abuses can also foster an increase in darkness due to the fascination that such revelations can evoke which can immerse those who learn of them in the energy of darkness itself. Such emotional involvement can link with the energies already present and become part of one’s own consciousness as well.
Separation of the body from sacredness must be seen, tocay, not only as news, but as a goal of oppositional energies that would limit the expansion of light upon the Earth through the de-sanctification of the body. As the body comes to be seen as ‘personal property’ rather than as a vehicle for Divine expression, the expansion of light within the body as well as its capacity to radiate light is reduced. Indeed, if the body is treated as a ‘thing’ that one uses or if another’s body is treated in a similar manner, the body of light cannot fully develop.
The revelation of sexual abuses in a public way gives to each one a choice that was not present while things were more hidden. The choice is this: to know that oppositional energies to the expansion of light are present in many forms and places and that one must strive to preserve and uphold the values of sacredness; or, to continue to pursue activities that are popularly accepted, even though they may depart from one’s deepest inner sense of what is right. The choice for sacredness cannot happen when the body is used in pursuit of activities that satisfy only a portion of the self or when one part of the self remains separated from another part in order to pursue ambitions that do not foster wholeness and growth.
In many areas of life today, the choice to purify one’s outlook, behaviors, and beliefs is being offered as an opportunity to open more to the values of the soul and to the values of living a sacred life. Here, one can choose to commit oneself more fully to such a life, or to remain in a more limited, insular consciousness. On a collective level, this choice is deeply significant. For a return to the sacred can only happen through the affirmation that each one makes to do so, and through the willingness that each one expresses to hold the entire self – body, heart, and mind - as inextricably linked to the spiritual Essence that lives at one’s core.
