SACRED VOTING
The right to vote is sacred, and though a political action, is meant to reflect the deepest spiritual values of the heart.
------------------------
There was a time before we understood that “one person, one vote” was a possibility for human beings. There was a time before democracy was assumed to be a valid way of life, indeed the way of life that corresponded, for humanity, to the right to their integrity and dignity as individuals. Today we vote for whom we wish to represent us. Today we vote. And in our hearts there is a remembrance that this vote that we have been given is sacred. It is sacred because it pronounces the right of men and women everywhere to determine their own fate and destinies.
Sacred voting. We vote with our ballots and we vote with the daily choices we make in life. These daily choices are a sacred vote as well. We vote to have our heart reign supreme in our life with others, and we vote to have our actions conform to the laws and life of the heart.
Sacred voting. There has been in the minds and hearts of many, a clear line drawn between the political and the spiritual as it is played out in ordinary life – in the rough and tumble of campaigns, elections, and government compromises and conciliations that attempt to address many diverse interests. We have, in many cases, lost faith in the possibility of the political retaining the laws of the heart and the heart’s love.
But this is not how it is meant to be. The principles of light and the purposes of love are meant to govern our voting. The principles of light and the purposes of love are meant to govern our actions. And these purposes are meant to take us further and further in the direction of the expression of love. They are not meant to take us in the direction of self-interest, fear of others, competition, and the animosity that often arises between those who hold differing points of view.
Today, let these principles of light, unity, and love guide our voting as we reach for the ballot that we are given. This sacred gift has been placed into our hands as a testimony to the evolution of consciousness which, still, in many places in the world, is withheld from many. We must think of these many as we hold our sacred ballots – these many who have not yet had the chance to authentically represent themselves and their wishes in an honest and fair balloting.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. That they are endowed by their Creator with the unalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. May we hold this ideal for all others who are today still disenfranchised. And may we hold this ideal for ourselves as we recognized our sacred voting today, tomorrow, and the next tomorrow, and the next – as we vote for love and for light in all of our actions and all of our intentions,.
May God bless this sacred day of voting. May God bless America. May the purposes of light and love prevail.
