What is the Difference between Prayer and Meditation?

Julie

What is the difference between prayer and meditation and does it matter which avenue one chooses as an approach to the Divine?

------------------------

Prayer and meditation are ways of connecting with the Divine Oneness, often through what feels like a choice between addressing something outside oneself and seeking something within the self.  This is not a real dichotomy, however, but a dichotomy of perception, for what is outside and what is inside are one and the same.

Each soul must choose the path it resonates with most strongly at a particular point in time in order to make the greatest progress spiritually.  This is not to say that there is only one path for a soul, for souls choose to learn different things from different paths in different lifetimes and in different periods during the same lifetime.   In this choice, the soul, communicating through the heart, tells one's waiting awareness what one feel most drawn to.  This is the path to follow and it is often a  mixture of prayerful meditation or meditative prayer, depending upon how one's own soul wishes to communicate with God.
